Cross Country

Very few athletes specialise in Cross Country. The majority are road athletes who use cross country to improve speed, strength and stamina. The same can be said for track athletes who also use cross country to keep their levels up during the off-season.

The cross country season normally starts in March and runs through to August, comprising of approximately 10 league meetings with the final meeting serving as a KwaZulu-Natal Championship event. From KZN Champs and their performance in the league events, athletes may then be chosen to represent KZN at SA Cross Country Champs.

Perhaps it should be noted that the top track field athletes and marathoners from around the world all use cross country as part of their training regimen.

For the older people who are still competitive, it is great that we can still race and compete against others of comparable age as everything is split into age groups.

It is also a very enjoyable event for the not so serious runner also. It works very well as a family sport as the races are all split into age groups with different starting times and the family members will run in different events.  It is very social as the PDAC gazebo is always present and it is our tradition to have soup and sherry afterwards and to discuss how well or how poorly we feel we have run!

PDAC has a very strong Cross Country legacy and has traditionally always had great support from our members and fares very well at the championships. If you compete in 5 or more leagues you will receive a beautiful PDAC fleece sweater which will be awarded at our annual prize-giving.
